Notes: Okay, well, this was supposed to be the grand 25th anniversary HL/HLTR fic, but Amanda came knocking and said, "Hey, what about that little story where I get to watch Nick sleep?" ::sigh:: This poem was to be the opener to a mystery story involving Nick Wolfe's ex-wife. Then, just as I was deciding whether or not to continue with the story, I found out that HLTR would be airing an ep with Nick's ex-wife as a central figure. Rather than develop my own notions further about who she would be, I've decided to keep the poem and hold off on writing anything about her. Yes, I know I could still continue with the story, but I need a major break from writing HL fic. It's all I've been writing for the last six months. :-) Thanks to Amand-r, Dana, Molly, and Daniel for looking this over, even if the rest of the tale is going to have to go under a rewrite should I ever finish it.
Heaven Only Knows
by Raine WyndI look to the moonlit sky in search of answers
But all I hear is the echo of my questions
Rolling across the shadowed valley
Between the steep mountains of circumstance
And down the deep waters of serendipity.
Is the life we live just a shattered fantasy
That belonged to someone else across the dirt road
Who deliberately wrung it out in dripping streams
When they hung their dream catcher out to dry
After soaking it in the salty tears of a broken heart?
Is there nothing we can do but to hold on to each other,
A pair of survivors in the wake of a major train wreck,
Battered by the storms of our past,
And pray we'll survive this cold Paris night?
Heaven only knows
