once upon a faded dream
I had this buried in an old journal, and when I was searching for the original copies of poems I'd posted here, I came across it again. I had a habit of trying to incorporate images from previous poems; I was trying to have a continguous series going. ©9/17/1989
once upon a faded dream,
a soiled, once-white rag
lay in a sad, tattered heap
on the just-waxed tile floor
it reminded me of a girl
i used to know quite well
once upon a faded dream
once upon a faded dream,
a flower so fragile struggled for life
beneath a late spring snow:
'twas a rose born under the light
of a young lovers' moon,
and touched by passion's flame
once upon a faded dream
once upon a faded dream,
a fence of briars surrounded this rose
and she could not break free
till the blade of love cut the fence
and tore down the walls she'd built
with just a pure feeling
once upon a faded dream
once upon a faded dream,
hope fertilized the rose into a garden of joy
under the light of the summer sun
and she began to believe in forever
but into every garden comes a storm
and she put away her dream like she'd a used rag
