Shattered, you
shutter the windows to your wounded soul
put a lock on the door to your broken heart
take a deep, strengthening breath and
find
a way to live again
without all the creeping doubt you learned to harbor
without all the irrational fear that was instilled in you
with a contented smile on your unbruised face
for the heart has grown wiser
and no one will hurt you that way again

Stronger now, you
stride proudly forth in a world of chaos
remember to see the roses for the thorns
take a deep, soothing breath and
find
that tragedy brings surprises
with all the remembered pain you thought you'd forgotten
with all the excess baggage you once carried unhesitatingly
but the spirit has grown stronger
and no one will destroy you that way again
