roads we have traveled have been darker by day than any night
people we have trusted have turned us away without a thought
the devil's flame scorched its mark on our souls long ago
and the tears we have yet to shed could fill an ocean
salvation cannot take us back
to the crossroads where we left
the shattered pieces of our innocence
nor can temptation replace
the lessons we've learned as a result
we are hammered on the anvil of our experience
heated in the forge of our belief
cooled in the pain of our understanding
and bent yet again by the next truth
we call ourselves survivors
but i think we just learned to live with it all
and be proud of it
