bringing fictional realities to life since 1997

Untitled #1

A little background on this one: I was in Advanced Training for my MOS (Military Occupation Specialty) at Fort Jackson, South Carolina when I wrote this poem for a friend who had just finished calling home to receive news fit for a country heartbreak song, including the fact that his wife had, in absentia, kicked him out of the house, changed the locks, and disposed of whatever belongings he had left there, all because he'd chosen to enlist in the military, hoping that the steady income and regimented lifestyle would stop her from leaving him for his best friend, prove to her that he was capable of becoming the better man she'd wanted him to be, instead of a long-haul trucker. This was my gift to him, though it was supposed to be a more uplifting piece than it turned out to be.  1990 Raine Wynd

Drifting like the pieces of a shipwreck
Lost like a newborn puppy without a home
What happened yesterday just doesn't matter anymore
Today's just another brick in the wall
That your heart built a long time ago.

The new sun will rise but your eyes won't see the beauty
The cold winds will wane but your skin won't feel the bite
You're a man who's looking to find something
And you know you need a four leaf clover
But your feet won't wander like they used to.

Stuck in the prison of a nine-to-five
Trapped in the confines of a life you once wanted
There's nowhere for a man like you to go
No way to return to what you knew way back when
'Cos your soul just don't live here anymore.
