what went wrong
As with many of my poems, I wrote this in response to a friend's sad tale of woe. 1990 Raine Wyndl
How could I have been so blind
The truth was there to see
Everyone else saw it
But I just wouldn't believe
It wasn't that you cheated
It wasn't that you lied
It wasn't that you were mean
It was just that we were living separate lives
Love came and crept out the back door
As silently as it had sneaked in
And we were left holding the pieces
Of everything we had once been
It wasn't that I cheated
It wasn't that I lied
It wasn't that I was mean
It was just that we were living separate lives
